When Asher first told me his ideas for what was given the working title "the spyhouse" I was inspired and excited. Not only by the project he was describing but by his energy and enthusiasm. It wasn't very long before I had started building and the luxury of being able to "sketch" in 3D was being used to try out ideas and the building began to take shape. Asher made sure I knew exactly what he was trying to achieve and we quickly learned how to work together. To take a building as radical and complex as the MI6 building and not only represent it's essense in SL but make it useable as a functioning art gallery too was quite a challenge.
Apart from a great attention to the mechanical details , corners meeting , no flashing textures, scale being kept consistent, seemless original textures etc. A lot of care was taken on the not so obvious details too. The way the rooms relate to eachother as one passes through them. The way the users view is not blocked but still keeping the space enclosed and divided.
The end result is not only a building that stands out from the crowd (which isn't easy in a world where pretty well anything is possible). But is also a pleasure to be in, on and around. Now with the art and furniture installed it has come to life and though still fondly referred to as "the spyhouse" it has truly come of age and has become Heldscalla.
This is by far the biggest project I have undertaken in SL apart from my own ever changing house in Mowry. This is basicly two waterside castles with connecting and surrounding gardens . One of which is my home and is more of a surrealist sculpture disguised as a house. The other is a club and ballroom complex where a lot of music and dance takes place.
I am currently working on two projects. One is to build a copy of the building i work in in RL for a proposal I am putting together. The other is an Italian Villa overlooking the sea, for a friend. Both quite ambitious and detailed but that's how I like it.
I also like to design clothes, toys and avatars in SL. some of my earliest designs like the DEVO outfit and hat are still quite popular. My more recent rasta hat with dreads is a must at partys and some of my fog/dry ice particle machines are to be found dotted around SL too.
Apart from all this i am one of SL's busiest DJs with a twice weekly set at the Three Lions Pub, a once weekly set at Irie Vibes reggae club and occasional smaller events at my own place or the Octagon (a psychedelic playground shared with some friends). Where I play everything from juke box classics thru 1930s swing, reggae and wierd stuff i found on Myspace. |
